This article aims to explain the basics of voting on the FIO blockchain, highlighting some benefits that voters receive and to give you a step-by-step guide on how to vote using the Anchor wallet.
What is FIO?
FIO is a decentralized service layer based on the DPoS consensus algorithm. The key goal of the project is to become a single platform combining all crypto endpoints under its hood to enable interaction with any blockchain through one human readable account. Both developers and end-users can make use of its convenient interface to access wallets, exchanges, crypto payment processors, and any other cryptocurrency-based applications.
What makes FIO stand out from other blockchain projects is the simplicity of use. All you need to do is to create a human-readable account which looks like yourname@yourdomain and integrate it with your wallet.
Voting on FIO
All FIO token holders can vote for different aspects of the platform’s governance directly or through a Proxy. You can support up to 30 of your favorite Block Producers or a single Proxy by appointing them your vote weight. Participating in voting creates a more secure and decentralized network that will ultimately drive more value back to token holders.
Please consider voting for Block Producers that are geographically diversified and that drive value back to token holders via building great tools and innovating the protocol.
Step-by-step Guide on Voting for Proxies and Block Producers
1. Set up a FIO wallet using Anchor
After creating an account on services such as Guarda or Edge Wallet, you can import your existing FIO account to Anchor. Follow the instructions below to import your wallet to Anchor.
- Install the Anchor wallet from its official website. (Note: in this guide, we are going to use the Windows desktop version of the app).
- In the app, click “Set up a new wallet” and select FIO blockchain to enable it.
- Go to the “home” tab and click “Import account”.
- Paste your existing FIO private key in the appropriate field. Select the account that you want to import.
- Type the password that you specified for the Anchor wallet.
- Allow Anchor to integrate with apps.
2. Login to fio.bloks.io
- Go to fio.bloks.io and login via your Anchor wallet.
- In the pop-up window, click the button “Open Anchor App”.
- In the Anchor app, select the FIO account that you want to use, click the unlock button and authorize using your Anchor password.
3. Vote via Proxy
If you don’t have time to research Block Producers, you can proxy your vote to a proxy to allow them to vote on your behalf. You can select proxies based on their philosophy. For example, our proxy “proxy@genereos” has the philosophy to “select Block Producers that bring the most value-add to FIO, with the plan to rotate selections to give as many BPs the chance to shine”
- At fio.blocks.io, go to the “Vote” tab.
- Switch to the “Proxies” tab and select proxy@genereos.
- Click the big blue button “Proxy to proxy@genereos”.
- In the pop-up window, connect to the Anchor wallet by selecting the appropriate option.
- Finalize the vote by clicking on the green button in the wallet.
- The transaction is submitted.
4. Vote for up to 30 Block Producers
- At fio.blocks.io, go to the “Vote” tab.
- Click on the checkbox for our block producer bp@genereos and also pick another 29 BPs then vote by clicking the appropriate button on top.
- In the pop-up window, click the button “Open Anchor App”.
- In the app, click on the green button in the bottom right corner to finalize the voting.
- Verify the submitted transaction.
